TIME Magazine honos Purnima Devi Barnam as a 2025 Woman Of The Year
WiNN India member Purnima Devi Barnam was honored as one of Time Magazine’s 2025 Women of the Year. Purnima shares this honor with 12 other remarkable women fighting for girls’ rights to be free from FGM (Gambia’s Fatou Baldeh) for survivor’s rights (France’s Gisèlle Pelicot), for equity in sports and the arts (A’ja Wilson, Jordan Chiles, and Nicole Kidman) for access to better healthcare for women (Amanda Zurawski and Olivia Munn).
About its process for selecting the honorees for its annual Women of the Year award, the magazine wrote these wordsL
“When we sit down to think about the Women of the Year each winter, we ask ourselves the same question: What are the most significant issues facing women and girls around the world right now? Challenges are abundant, from gender-based violence and attacks on women’s rights to the dangers of a volatile climate. But everywhere those threats can be found, so too can leaders pushing for change. The 13 women on this year’s list are all, in their own way, working toward creating a better, more equitable world.” We’re incredibly grateful for the work Purnima has done to save the endangered Greater Adjutant stork while creating opportunities for thousands of women in India.
