Florence Aghomo Wins SCB Young Women in Conservation Biology Award

The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) announced the winners of its 2024 Group Awards for outstanding contributions to biodiversity protection. The Society’s Africa Region selected Florence Aghomo for the Young Women in Conservation Biology Award. The award recognizes the achievements of young women in Africa who advance the discipline of conservation biology on the continent. Winners are nominated by SCB Groups that work regionally or topically to implement the Society's mission.

Florence is the red colobus conservation coordinator for the IUCN SSC Primate Specialist Group and the African Primatological Society. She is building and leading a network of volunteers, organizations, and working conservationists called The Red Colobus Conservation Network to protect the 18 forms of red colobus. In 2021, Florence was named one of the top 100 conservation leaders in Africa for her conservation leadership and extensive work to protect red colobus. Congratulations to Florence on this achievement!
